Lady Xie

Lady Xie was a wife of Sun Quan, founding emperor of Eastern Wu during the three kingdoms period of Chinese history. She was a native of Shanyin, Kuaiji (present-day Shaoxing, Zhejiang ). Her father Xie Jiong (謝煚) served as a Secretariat Gentleman and Prefect of Xu during the han dynasty. Xie was favoured by Sun Quan's mother Lady Wu. When Sun Quan took Lady Xu as another wife later, he wanted to demote Xie's status to below that of Xu. Xie refused and fell into depression. She died at a young age.

More than ten years later, Lady Xie's younger brother Xie Cheng (謝承) was appointed Gentleman of Five Officials. He moved to the eastern part of Changsha later to take up his new appointments as Commandant and Administrator of Wuling. He compiled more than 100 volumes of the Book of the later han (five dynasties).
