Montenegro-China Relations

The year 2010 saw smooth development of the friendly relations and cooperation between the People's Republic of China and Montenegro and expanding exchanges and cooperation between them in various areas.


The two countries maintained high-level contacts. In September, Li Changchun, Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, paid an official visit to Montenegro, during which he met with President of Parliament Ranko Krivokapic and Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic. The two sides spoke highly of their bilateral relations and agreed to further strengthen exchanges at the top and other levels, promote win-win cooperation and jointly push forward their relationship. In June, Chen Zhili, Vice Chairperson of the NPC and President of the All-China Women's Federation, visited Montenegro. In May, President Filip Vujanovic came to China for the National Pavilion Day activities of Montenegro at the Shanghai World Expo.


On 14 December, China's new ambassador to Montenegro Zhi Zhaolin presented his credentials to President Vujanovic.


Exchanges between parliaments and political parties of the two sides expanded. In February, Zeljko Sturanovic, Vice President of the Democratic Party of Socialists of Montenegro and Vice President of the Parliament, visited China. In May, Miodrag Vukovic, member of Presidency of the Democratic Party of Socialists of Montenegro and President of the Committee on International Relations and European Integration of the Parliament, and Srdjan Milic, President of the Socialist People's Party of Montenegro attended the first China-Europe High-Level Political Parties Forum in China.


The two foreign ministries enjoyed sound cooperation. In October, Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mirsad Bibovic came to China for the political consultation between the two foreign ministries. Vice Foreign Minister Fu Ying met with him and exchanged views on the bilateral relations and regional situation.


Cooperation between the two sides expanded in economy, trade, transport and military and other fields. In January, President of the Export-Import Bank of China Li Ruogu and a foreign affairs delegation from the Ministry of National Defense visited Montenegro respectively. In March, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Igor Luksic visited China. In December, Minister of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Telecommunications Andrija Lompar came to China for the 7th World Congress on High Speed Rail and signed with his Chinese counterpart, Minister of Railways Liu Zhijun, the Memorandum Of Understanding for Railway Cooperation Between the Ministry of Railways of the People's Republic of China and the Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Telecommunications of Montenegro.


In October, the 3rd session of the Joint Commission on Economic and Commercial Cooperation between the two countries was held in Beijing . Visits to Montenegro were also made by Vice Minister of Transport Feng Zhenglin and Vice Minister of the General Administration of Customs Wang Songhe.
