Pakistan Location in World Map

The geography of Pakistan is a profound blend of landscapes varying from plains to deserts, forests, hills, and plateaus ranging from the coastal areas of the Arabian Sea in the south to the mountains of the Karakoram range in the north. Pakistan geologically overlaps both with the Indian and the Eurasian tectonic plates where its Sindh and Punjab provinces lie on the north-western corner of the Indian plate while Balochistan and most of the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa lie within the Eurasian plate which mainly comprises the Iranian plateau, some parts of the Middle East and Central Asia. The Northern Areas and Azad Kashmir lie mainly in Central Asia along the edge of the Indian plate and hence are prone to violent earthquakes where the two tectonic plates collide.

Pakistan has recorded one of the highest temperatures in the world, 53.5 degrees,on 26 May 2010 it is not only the hottest temperature ever recorded in Pakistan, but also the hottest reliably measured temperature ever recorded in the continent of Asia. As Pakistan is located on a great landmass north of the tropic of capricorn (between latitudes 77° and 87° N), it has a continental type of climate characterized by extreme variations of temperature, both seasonally and daily. Very high altitudes modify the climate in the cold, snow-covered northern mountains; temperatures on the Balochistan Plateau are somewhat higher. Along the coastal strip,

Pakistan is the second most populous muslim-majority country and has the second largest Shi'a population in the world. About 97% of Pakistanis are muslim. The majority are Sunni, with an estimated 5–20% Shi'a. A further 2.3% are Ahmadis, who are officially considered non-muslims by virtue of a 1974 constitutional amendment. There are also several Quraniyoon communities. sectarian violence among muslim denominations has increased in recent times with over 400 targeted deaths of Shias in the year 2012 alone. After the Quetta blast in 2013 there were country wide protest by Shia muslims supported by fellow Sunni muslims calling an end to sectarian violence in the country and urging for Shia-Sunni unity in the country.
