Embassy of China in Cameroon

Cameroon, officially the Republic of Cameroon (French: République du Cameroun), is a country in west Central Africa. It is bordered by Nigeria to the west; Chad to the northeast; the Central African Republic to the east; and Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, and the Republic of the Congo to the south. Cameroon's coastline lies on the Bight of Bonny, part of the Gulf of Guinea and the Atlantic Ocean. The country is called "Africa in miniature" for its geological and cultural diversity. The year 2010 saw continued growth of the friendly relations and cooperation between the People's Republic of China and the Republic of Cameroon.

Bilateral contacts kept a good momentum of growth. In March, Jia Qinglin, Chairman of the National Committee of the CPPCC, paid an official goodwill visit to Cameroon and met with President Paul Biya. During his visit, Jia had talks with Speaker of the National Assembly Cavaye Yeguie Djibril on bilateral relations and issues of shared interest, and gave a keynote speech in the National Assembly entitled May the Flower of China-Africa Friendship Grow More Splendid. In May, Minister of Culture Cai Wu attended the celebration of the 50th anniversary of Cameroon's independence as special envoy of President Hu Jintao. In October, Obenofunde Moses, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Assembly of Cameroon, led a delegation to China.

In April and August, President Biya sent messages of sympathy to President Hu Jintao over the devastating earthquake in Yushu, Qinghai and the massive mudslide in Zhouqu, Gansu .

On 12 March, China's new ambassador to Cameroon Xue Jinwei presented the Letter of Credence to President Biya.

The two countries carried out fruitful cooperation in economy, trade and infrastructure. Construction of a China-assisted agriculture demonstration center was completed and the Douala Hospital of Gynaecology, Obstetrics and Pediatrics was well underway. Construction of Limbe and Bafousaam stadiums and Mekin hydropower station using China's preferential loans started in succession.

Cooperation in culture and education was rich in content. In May, during his stay in Cameroon for the celebration of the 50th anniversary of Cameroon's independence, Minister of Culture Cai Wu had meetings with his Cameroonian counterpart Ama Tutu Muna to exchange views on cultural communication and cooperation between the two countries. In the same month, a delegation of martial monks from Henan 's Shaolin Temple visited Cameroon. In October, Cameroonian Minister of Commerce Mbarga Atangana visited China and attended the event of the National Pavilion Day of Cameroon during the Shanghai World Expo.
