Fiji-China Relations

The Republic of the Fiji Islands was the first Pacific Island country to establish diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China, in 1975. China established an embassy in Fiji in 1976, and Fiji opened its embassy in China in 2001. Fiji's current ambassador to China is Sir James Ah Koy, a "long serving diplomat" who was replaced by Commodore Esala Teleni in late 2010. China's ambassador to Fiji is Huang Yong

Sino-Fijian diplomatic and economic relations significantly increased in the first decade of the 21st century. In May 2009, Fiji's interim Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama described Fiji's relationship with China as "wonderful", while Vice-President of Fiji Ratu Epeli Nailatikau described the country's "relationship with the government and the people of the People's Republic of China as one of its most important"
