Uganda, officially the Republic of Uganda, is a landlocked country in East Africa. In 2010, the friendly and cooperative relationship between the People's Republic of China and the Republic of Uganda continued to grow steadily.
Political relationship between the two countries was deepened. From 14 to 16 April, NPC Vice Chairwoman Yan Junqi visited Uganda. She met with Vice President Gilbert Bukenya and Speaker of Parliament Edward Ssekandi and held talks with Deputy Speaker Rebecca Kadaga. After the devastating mudslide in Zhouqu, Gansu Province in August, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni sent a letter of condolences to President Hu Jintao. In October, Foreign Minister Sam Kutesa visited China. Vice Premier Li Keqiang met with him and Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi held talks with him.
Bilateral economic cooperation and trade maintained a sound momentum of development. In May, Minister of Tourism, Trade and Industry Kahinda Otafiire visited China. Vice Commerce Minister Fu Ziying met with him. In November, the two countries signed the Agreement on Economic and Technical Cooperation Between the Government of the People's Republic of China and the Government of the Republic of Uganda. The Government Office Building, a hospital and the Agricultural Technology Demonstration Center built with Chinese assistance were basically completed.
China's senior agricultural expert group finished its one-year work at the Agricultural Technology Demonstration Center and returned to China. The fourth batch of anti-malaria medicine was handed over to the Ugandan side. From 1 July, import duty on 60% of Uganda's exports to China were reduced or exempted. The second phase of the National Transmission Backbone Network and E-government Project with preferential loans from China was making smooth progress.
The exchanges and cooperation between the two countries in other fields continued to strengthen. In August, Vice Minister of Supervision Wang Wei visited Uganda and held talks with Acting Inspector General Baku Raphael. In April, Minister of Defense Crispus Kiyonga visited China and Defense Minister General Liang Guanglie held talks with him. In May, Deputy Speaker Rebecca Kadaga attended the 2010 Global Summit of Women in China. NPC Vice Chairwoman Yan Junqi met with her.
