The year 2010 marked the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the People's Republic of China and the Kingdom of Denmark. It witnessed all-round development of bilateral ties and in-depth growth of exchanges and cooperation in various areas.


There were close high-level exchanges. From 26 to 30 May, NPC Vice Chairman Hua Jianmin visited Denmark, during which he had meetings or talks with Speaker of the Parliament Thor Pedersen, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Lene Espersen, and Deputy Speaker Mogens Lykketoft. From 22 to 24 June, CPPCC Vice Chairman Zheng Wantong visited Denmark.


From 9 to 12 April, Prime Minister Lars Loekke Rasmussen visited China and attended the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2010. He had talks with Premier Wen Jiabao and met with Vice President Xi Jinping. From 28 to 30 June, Crown Prince Frederik attended the National Pavilion Day activities of Denmark. From 29 October to 1 November, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Espersen attended the Closing Ceremony of the Shanghai World Expo and the opening ceremony of the Summit Forum, and met Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi. Prince Consort Henrik, husband of the Queen, and Prince Joachim visited China in their private capacities.


On 11 May, President Hu Jintao, Premier Wen Jiabao and Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi exchanged congratulatory messages with Queen Margrethe II, Prime Minister Rasmussen, and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Espersen respectively on the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. In April and August, Queen Margrethe II, Prime Minister Rasmussen, and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Espersen sent messages of condolences to President Hu, Premier Wen and Foreign Minister Yang over the Yushu earthquake and Zhouqu mudslide.


Economic and trade cooperation enjoyed rapid growth and bright prospects. In May, Commerce Minister Chen Deming led a Chinese trade and investment promotion delegation to Denmark for the first time. The two sides co-sponsored the China-Denmark Economic and Trade Cooperation Forum, and signed the Memorandum of Understanding Between the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Denmark on the Establishment of Joint Investment Promotion Working Group to the China-Denmark Joint Economic and Trade Committee and the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation Between the Trade Council of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark and the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Machinery and Electronic Products as well as business contracts and letters of intent worth about US$740 million.


In September, Vice Commerce Minister Jiang Yaoping visited Denmark to promote the China International Green Industry Expo 2010, and over 30 Danish companies attended the promotion event.


Cultural and people-to-people exchanges were diverse and colorful. The Little Mermaid statue left Denmark for the first time to be displayed at the Shanghai World Expo. It became a highlight of the Expo Site and attracted around five million visitors. The "Wild Swans Exhibition" of original artworks by the Queen of Denmark was presented in Beijing . The ninth "Happy Chinese New Year" art activities were well-received in Denmark. The Beijing modern ballet company participated in the Copenhagen Summer Dance Festival in Denmark.


Cooperation in the fields of science, technology, education and health further deepened. The 17th session of the China-Denmark Joint Committee on Science and Technological Cooperation was held in Beijing . The two sides agreed on new cooperation projects between the two governments in science and technology and signed a number of agreements, including the Agreement Between the Graduate School of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation of Denmark Concerning Construction, Maintenance and Cooperation of the "House of the Danish Industry Foundation" in the Sino-Danish Center for Education and Research on the Yanqihu Campus of the Graduate School of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Partnership Agreement Between the Graduate School of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and University of Copenhagen, Aarhus University,


University of Southern Denmark, Aalborg University, Roskilde University, Technical University of Denmark, Copenhagen Business School, and IT University of Copenhagen on the Establishment of the Sino-Danish Center for Education and Research at the Graduate School of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the Memorandum of Understanding on the Health Cooperation Between the Ministry of the Interior and Health of Denmark and the Ministry of Health of China. The China Southern Power Grid and the Danish Energy Agency carried out cooperation on grid technologies. The Beijing Genomics Institute and the University of Copenhagen signed a Joint PHD Scheme Agreement.


There were frequent exchanges between government departments and localities of the two countries. A number of Chinese officials visited Denmark, including Vice Minister of Water Resource Jiao Yong, Vice Health Minister Chen Xiaohong, Vice Minister of Housing and Urban-Rural Development Chen Dawei, Deputy Inspector-General of the Ministry of Land and Resources Gan Zangchun, Auditor-in-Chief of the National Audit Office Sun Baohou, Director of the China Seismological Bureau Chen Jianmin, Vice Minister of the State Administration of Sport Xiao Tian, Director of the Discipline Inspection Office of the Chinese Academy of Governance Yang Wenming,


Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee and Secretary of the CPC Changsha Municipal Committee Chen Run'er, Vice Governor of Liaoning Chen Chaoying, Vice Governor of Jiangsu Xu Ming, Vice Chairman of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Guo Qijun, Vice Mayor of Chongqing Liu Xuepu, and Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Gansu Provincial People's Congress Zhu Zhiliang. Several Danish cabinet members visited China, including Minister for Climate and Energy and Minister for Gender Equality Lykke Friis,


Minister for Science, Technology and Innovation Charlotte Sahl-Madsen, Minister for Environment and Minister for Nordic Cooperation Karen Ellemann, Minister for Culture Per Stig Moeller, Minister for Food, Agriculture and Fisheries Henrik Hoeegh and Minister for Taxation Troels Lund Poulsen. Delegations from the Education Committee and the Environment and Regional Planning Committee of the Danish Parliament also visited China. In May, Permanent Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Claus Grube came to China for bilateral political consultations. He met and had talks with Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi and Vice Foreign Minister Fu Ying respectively.
