The relations between the People's Republic of China and the Republic of Estonia enjoyed smooth growth in 2010, with closer friendly exchanges and cooperation in various fields.


The two countries maintained high-level contacts and frequent political exchanges. In May, President Hu Jintao had a brief discussion with President Toomas Hendrik Ilves while attending the commemorative activities celebrating the 65th anniversary of victory over Fascism in Moscow. In September, Li Changchun, Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, visited Estonia and met with Speaker of the Parliament Ene Ergma and Prime Minister Andrus Ansip. In late May, Vice Chairman of the NPC Hua Jianmin visited Estonia. In April, Foreign Minister Urmas Paet attended the opening ceremony of the Shanghai World Expo and met with Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi. He came to China again in October for Estonia's National Pavilion Day. In November, the second round of consular consultations between China and Estonia was held in Beijing .


Economic cooperation and trade continued to grow. From 7 to 11 June, Jnhan Parts, Minister of Economic Affairs and Communications, led a delegation to attend the Shanghai World Expo and visit China. In July, Tsinghua Tongfang Nuctech Co., Ltd signed a contract worth €2.7 million with the Estonian Land Board in Tallinn for supplying Estonia with a container monitoring system for freighters.


The two countries enjoyed dynamic exchanges in culture and education. In September, Li Changchun, Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, attended the inauguration ceremony for the Confucius Institute at Tallinn University. The Estonian pavilion at the Shanghai World Expo was very popular among Chinese and foreign visitors, attracting over 2 million people. In October Minister of Culture Laine Janes and Foreign Minister Urmas Paet attended Estonia's National Pavilion Day.
