The year 2010 marked the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the People's Republic of China and the Republic of Indonesia and the Year of Friendship between the two countries. Bilateral relations developed with good momentum. Political mutual trust grew markedly, practical cooperation in various fields expanded continuously and the two countries maintained good coordination and cooperation in international and regional affairs.

High-level contacts were frequent. President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao respectively met with President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on multilateral occasions. In November, NPC Chairman Wu Bangguo visited Indonesia and China provided RMB10 million in emergency humanitarian assistance to Indonesia to help it fight natural disasters. In May, Guo Boxiong, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Vice Chairman of the CPC Central Military Commission, visited Indonesia.

In January, State Councilor Dai Bingguo visited Indonesia and chaired the 2nd Bilateral Dialogue between the State Councilor of the People's Republic of China and the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia. Following the dialogue, the two sides signed the Plan of Action for the Implementation of the Joint Declaration on Strategic Partnership Between the People's Republic of China and the Republic of Indonesia. In October, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono visited the Shanghai World Expo and Vice President Boediono attended the China-ASEAN Expo and came to Beijing for a working visit. Most of the Indonesian cabinet ministers, including three Coordinating Ministers (vice prime minister level) visited China in 2010.

Economic cooperation and trade were fruitful. The China-ASEAN FTA agreement was implemented on schedule. Bilateral trade between China and Indonesia realized rapid growth. The 10 million-kilowatt Indonesian coal power station contracted by a Chinese company progressed smoothly. The preferential export buyer's credit provided by China to Indonesia was implemented steadily. The PLTU Labuhan Angin project was completed.

Successful activities were held to mark the the Year of Friendship between China and Indonesia. Each of the two sides hosted a China-Indonesia strategic partnership seminar. The Chinese side held large-scale trade exhibitions, painting exhibitions, martial arts performances and the Islamic Cultural Expo and Art Show 2010. Chinese astronauts and the "Yuanwang 5" space tracking ship visited Indonesia.

The two countries had increasingly vigorous exchanges in the military, scientific, technological and maritime fields. In December, Indonesian Army Chief of Staff General George Toisutta visited China; a Chinese naval fleet paid a friendly visit to the Port of Jakarta, Indonesia; and the two countries held the 5th Technical Committee Meeting on Maritime Cooperation and the 4th China-Indonesia Workshop on Cooperation on Maritime Science and Environmental Protection.
