The year 2010 marked the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the People's Republic of China and the Republic of Ecuador and their friendly and cooperative relations continued to deepen.

The two sides maintained the momentum of high-level exchanges. On 2 January, President Hu Jintao and President Rafael Correa Delgado exchanged messages of congratulations on the 30th anniversary of China-Ecuador relations. She met with President Correa and National Secretary of Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation Manuel Eduardo Baldeón. The two sides signed the Treaty on Economic and Technological Cooperation Between the Government of the People's Republic of China and the Government of the Republic of Ecuador and the Executive Plan of Cooperation in Science and Technology Between the Government of the People's Republic of China and the Government of the Republic of Ecuador.

From 10 to 16 August, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Integration Ricardo Armando Patiño Aroca visited China and attended Ecuador's National Pavilion Day event of the Shanghai World Expo. Military-to-military relations were strengthened. From 11 to 14 November, General Chen Bingde, Chief of the PLA General Staff, visited Ecuador. He met with President Correa and held talks with Head of the Joint Command of the Armed Forces General Luis González Villarreal. From 24 to 30 November, Chief of Staff of the Army Major General Marco Vera visited China.
