The friendly relations between the People's Republic of China and Antigua and Barbuda developed steadily in 2010. Bilateral exchanges and cooperation in all fields continued to deepen. The two countries extended understanding to and worked closely with each other in international affairs.


The two countries maintained the momentum of high-level exchanges and political mutual trust continued to deepen. In December, State Councilor Liu Yandong visited Antigua and Barbuda. During the visit, she met with Governor-General Louise Lake-Tack and held talks with Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer. The two sides signed bilateral cooperation documents on economy, trade, finance, science, technology and education. On 20 August, new Chinese Ambassador to Antigua and Barbuda Liu Hanming presented the Letter of Credence to Governor-General Louise Lake-Tack.


Bilateral economic cooperation and trade enjoyed steady development. Antigua and Barbuda was China's major trading partner in East Caribbean and two-way trade kept growing in 2010. The project of street lighting system that China built was completed successfully and the projects of water pond maintenance and power plant proceeded well.


Cultural and people-to-people exchanges continued to expand. Minister of State within the Ministry of Legal Affairs Joanne Massiah attended the activities of CARICOM Day at the Shanghai World Expo. Ten students from Antigua and Barbuda studied in China. President of the newspaper Daily Observer came to China with the fifth high-level Latin-American media study group.
