The friendly relations between the People's Republic of China and Barbados enjoyed smooth development in 2010 with further progress in exchanges and cooperation in all fields.

Political relations grew steadily. In November, CPPCC Vice Chairman Bai Lichen went to the Embassy of Barbados in China to mourn for Prime Minister David Thompson who passed away because of illness. In March, Sir Lloyd Erskine Sandiford, who is the first resident ambassador of Barbados to China, presented his credentials. In May, a delegation of the Barbados Labor Party visited China. In July, Foreign Minister Maxine McClean and Minister of Tourism Richard Sealy came to China to attend the opening ceremony of the Barbados embassy in China and the activities of the CARICOM Day at the Shanghai World Expo.

Practical economic cooperation and trade progressed steadily. The two countries signed the Protocol to the Agreement between the Government of the People's Republic of China and the Government of Barbados for the Avoidance of Double Taxation and the Prevention of Fiscal Evasion with Respect to Taxes on Income.

Cooperation in human resources maintained a sound momentum. Three students of Barbados studied in China and six people from Barbados came to China for training in diplomacy and the press.
